Suspects sought in armed robbery at Merritt Parkway service plaza

State Police are looking for two suspects in an armed robbery of the southbound Merritt Parkway service plaza in Fairfield Thursday night.

No one was injured during the robbery that happened around 8:30 p.m..

Witnesses on the scene described one suspect as a black male, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a mask, black sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and red sneakers. He was accompanied by a juvenile black male, who as wearing a green coat and tan pants.

“The adult male displayed a black handgun while the juvenile stood by the door,” troopers said in a release.

The two suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

State Police K9 units performed a search, but with no results.

The service plaza is located between Exits 46 and 44 in Fairfield.

Along with outside Mobil gas pumps, the service plaza has a building that has a Dunkin’ Donuts and an Alltown Market. The plaza is open 24/7.
