Pawtucket man pleads guilty to drug charges
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man who fled a traffic stop as federal investigators were about to arrest him during a drug investigation has pleaded guilty to fentanyl and cocaine trafficking charges.
Authorities say 24-year-old Luis Leon faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday.
Police conducting surveillance at Leon’s Pawtucket home in early April saw someone entering carrying a large duffel bag. A short time later, Leon left the residence carrying the duffel bag, which he placed in the back of a pickup truck. When police tried to stop him, he sped off, crashed, and abandoned his truck.
The duffel bag was found in some bushes. Authorities retired the bag and found it full of fentanyl and cocaine. Leon was caught the following day in Fall River, Massachusetts.
