Packers claim Kapri Bibbs off waivers
The Green Bay Packers claimed Kapri Bibbs off waivers Monday, days after the Redskins released the running back to promote cornerback Joshua Holsey off the practice squad.
Bibbs, who joined the team last season, had fallen out of the Redskins’ running back rotation when Byron Marshall and Chris Thompson returned from injury. In 10 games, the 25-year-old ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns on 20 attempts. He also caught 13 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.
The Redskins released Bibbs on Saturday.
The move caught fans by surprise, and they were particularly upset about it when Marshall blew coverage on a punt-returntouchdown in Sunday’s 16-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“We have had Byron since training camp,” Gruden said when asked why the team kept Marshall over Bibbs. “I have had Kapri and I love them both. [Samaje] Perine hasnt had much of an opportunity so we wanted to keep him around. Byron is really Chris Thompsons backup. We have a package of plays with Byron and Chris.
“I have been very intrigued with Byrons skill set for a long time, he just hasnt been able to get that opportunity. I think the more he gets the better hes going to be. You can really go either way there. They are both very good players.
