Free New Year’s Eve concert features son of Mel Torme under the London Bridge
Lake Havasu City residents who want to ring in the new year musically can attend a free concert under the London Bridge Dec. 31.
The show features Steve March-Torme.
Yes, THAT Torme. He is eldest son of the late Mel Torme, a popular singer of jazz standards.
March-Torme inherited his father’s vocal skills. He is an international recording artist, musician and performer with ties to Havasu. In his live shows, he naturally sings his dad’s signature songs, such as “Careless Hands,” “Again” and “Blue Moon.” Other offerings lean into the pop music genre and feature homages to Steely Dan, Todd Rundgren and Joni Mitchell.
According to his online biography, March-Torme also hosts radio shows, including weekday afternoons on KVYL-FM Vinyl in Havasu and Monday mornings on KVYL-FM at 9 a.m. for a sports segment called “Mondays with March-Tormé.”
For the Dec. 31 event, guests should bring their own seating and dress warmly, said Terence Concannon of Havasu’s Convention & Visitors Bureau. The two-hour show begins at 6 p.m.
“Guests cannot bring their own alcoholic beverages,” Concannon said in an email. “But they are certainly welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages, such as coffee and cocoa.”
