Wintry weather returning to Northern New Mexico
Inclement weather is expected to return to Northern New Mexico this week, with thunderstorms and high-elevation snow continuing into Thursday.
“Substantial snowfall” is expected above 9,000 feet Monday and Tuesday, according to predictions from the National Weather Service’s Albuquerque office. Lower elevations — 6,000 feet and up — are likely to see snow Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
The storm, which is forecast to travel northeast through the state, also is likely to bring strong winds, especially south of Interstate 40 and east of Interstate 25. Temperatures are likely to plummet, according to National Weather Service predictions. A high of 35 degrees and a low of 22 is expected for Santa Fe on Thursday.
The system is expected to exit New Mexico by Wednesday, with precipitation lingering into Thursday.
