Georgia teen identified as victim in fatal fall in Alabama
GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — Authorities have identified a Georgia teenager who died in a fall into a creek at an Alabama waterfall.
Etowah County Coroner London Pearce tells the Gadsden Times that 18-year-old Lacey Alexis Head of Silver Creek, Georgia, died in the accident on Tuesday.
Head was hiking with friends in the gorge below Noccalula Falls when she slipped on a rock and fell into the water.
Gadsden Fire Chief Stephen Carroll says the young woman was found downstream from where she went into the water. Resuscitation attempts failed.
Two other people were stranded on a rock and had to be rescued.
Authorities say everyone Head and her friends are from the Rome, Georgia, area.
