Tibetan monks to share culture in Rhode Island
JAMESTOWN, R.I. (AP) — A group of Tibetan monks on a yearlong tour of the United States will be visiting Rhode Island for five days to share their country’s culture and arts.
The Newport Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/IX5CGL ) that the six monks of the Gaden Shartse Dokhang Monastery will be in Jamestown on Friday and Sunday.
They’re set to give a lecture at the Central Baptist Church on Friday evening and a cultural performance at the Jameson Arts Center on Sunday.
The monks are raising money for a new monastery in southern Indian and have an initial goal of $300,000. The group says it has had difficulties in recent years and lost its facilities in Tibet.
The group also has events planned in North Scituate, Providence, Narragansett and Wakefield from Wednesday to Sunday.
