Paris Mayor Rules Out 2016 Olympic Bid
PARIS (AP) _ The mayor of Paris on Tuesday ruled out a bid by the French capital for the 2016 Olympic Games.
Paris ``will not be a candidate for the 2016 Games, and if I can support a South American or an African bid, I will do it gladly,″ Bertrand Delanoe told radio network Europe 1.
Delanoe also reiterated his accusation that London had failed to play by the IOC’s rules in winning the right to host the 2012 Games.
``I said yesterday that the rules set by the IOC for the dossiers and the promotion conditions of the candidature were not respected by London,″ Delanoe said. ``I continue to maintain that.
``And I note that the athletes are saying the same as I.″
IOC president Jacques Rogge said Saturday that none of the cities had broken rules designed to stamp out corruption in the bidding process, but he added: ``Sometimes they were close to the limits.″
