Area teams return to the hardwood

O’Neill 70, Boone Central/Newman Grove 62 (OT): The Boone Central/Newman Grove girls basketball team played with O’Neil for four quarters, but O’Neil outscored BC/NG 11-3 in OT to earn the victory.

O’Neil had two played score more than 20 points during the game.

Cross County 35, Heartland 34: Cross County was down 23-10 at halftime, but came back outscoring Heartland 13-3 in the fourth quarter to get the victory on Saturday. Erica Stratman led the Cougars with 14 points.

Fullerton 39, High Plains Community 15: High Plains struggled to get the offense going in Friday’s game against Fullerton scoring only four points in the first half and zero in the fourth quarter.

Fullerton outscored High Plains 11-0 in the fourth.

No. 1 Humphrey St. Francis 62, Howells-Dodge 31: Lauren Pfeifer scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Friday night victory. Allison Weidner led the Flyers with 26 points.

No. 3 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 68, Riverside 17: Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family started and ended strong on Friday night. The Bulldogs outscored the Chargers 19-1 in the first quarter and 17-0 in the fourth quarter.

Taya Beller recorded a double-double with 14 rebounds and 14 points.

Nebraska Lutheran 47, Osceola 42: Osceola wasn’t able to close the 28-12 gap in the second half on Friday.

The Bulldogs outscored the Knights 30-19 in the second half, but there wasn’t enough time to close the gap.

Santee 52, St. Edward 50: The Beavers had a five-point lead after the first half on Friday, but weren’t able to hang on for the victory despite Alyssa Reardon scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Twin River 41, David City 34: Halle Konz scored 20 points including eight in the fourth quarter to get the Titans the win on Friday night.

Twin River outscored David City 12-3 in the the first quarter.

Boone Central/Newman Grove 47, Wayne 41: The Cardinals responded from an overtime loss on Friday to get the win on Saturday against Wayne.

The teams were tied at 22 going into halftime, but Boone Central/Newman Grove outscored Wayne 16-2 in the third quarter and Wayne wasn’t able to close the gap in the fourth.

No. 1 Humphrey St. Francis 58, Burwell 45: St. Francis’ Allison Weidner’s near triple-double (20 points, eight rebounds, nine assists) propelled HSF to the victory on Saturday night.

Tara Foltz scored 13 and Alissa Kosch contributed 11 points.

Twin River 52, Madison 26: Madison was no match for Twin River on Saturday. The Titans led 43-15 after three quarters.


Boone Central/Newman Grove 67, O’Neill 62: Going into the fourth quarter, Boone Central/Newman Grove only had a two-point lead over O’Neil, but outscored O’Neil 18-15 in the final eight minutes to clinch victory on Friday night.

Cross County 51, Heartland 49: Cross County was down seven points headed into the fourth quarter but thanks to 19 points from Cael Lundstrom, 15 from Alex Pinkelman and 13 from Grant Hollinger, achieved the Friday night victory outscoring Heartland 18-9 in the final eight minutes.

No. 1 Fullerton 93, High Plains Community 24: Fullerton displayed evidence of its No. 1 ranking shutting down High Plains start to finish.

The Storm were outscored 57-13 in the first half and 14-0 in the fourth quarter.

Howells-Dodge 58, No. 5 Humphrey St. Francis 47: St. Francis let its lead slip in the fourth quarter on Friday when the Flyers were outscored 22-4 over the final eight minutes.

No. 3 (Class D-2) Riverside 45, No. 6 (Class D-1) Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 41: The Friday night game between Riverside and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy family was back-and-forth.

Riverside took a 13-9 lead after eight minutes, but HLHF outscored the Chargers 27-18 in the second and third quarters to take a 36-31 lead headed into the final quarter.

Riverside closed the game on a 14-5 run to get the win.

Osceola 41, Nebraska Lutheran 39: Osceola only allowed two Nebraska Lutheran players to score more than five points during the Friday night victory.

Santee 70, St. Edward 57: Trevor Rasmussen of St. Edward scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a loss against Santee on Friday night.

Twin River 56, David City 48: Twin River had nine different players score in Friday night’s victory over David City.

Brandon Miller scored a team-high 16 points.

Wayne 61, Boone Central/Newman Grove 51: Wayne had three players score in double digits on Saturday to get the victory over the Cardinals.

The Blue Devils went on a 18-10 run to close the game.

No. 5 Humphrey St. Francis 66, Burwell 51: St. Franics backed up its No. 5 ranking in a Saturday victory over Burwell.

Twin River 65, Madison 58: Madison had two players score in the double digits, but it wasn’t enough to get the win on Saturday.


Boone Central at High Plains Invite: Will Grape (120) 7th, Tyson Haddix (126) 6th, Ethan Dozler (160) 6th, Jon Merten (220) 4th, Dalton Rasmussen (285) 5th.

Cross County/Osceola at Malcolm Invite: Cameron Graham (132) 1st, Bryce Reed (138) 3rd, Kyle Sterup (152) 2nd.

Twin River at Aquinas Invite: Jaxson Jones (138) 1st, Tucker Alexander (195) 4th.
