Komets sweep games at Brampton

March 17, 2019

Phelix Martineau scored twice to lead the Komets to a 4-2 victory today over the Brampton Beast, as Fort Wayne swept the pair of games at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario.

The Komets (31-21-9), who have won five of their last six games to remain in third place in the Central Division, play host to the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Coliseum.

J.C. Campagna netted his 33rd goal in 53 games since joining the Komets. That put him into a tie for the ECHL’s goal-scoring lead with Tulsa’s Adam Pleskach and Allen’s Zach Porino.

Sean Flanagan also scored for the Komets, who gave up goals to Brampton’s David Vallorani to open the scoring and Aaron Luchuk to close it during a power play.

Brampton scored on 1 of 3 power plays. Fort Wayne was 0 for 2, in front of an announced crowd of 2,549.

Goaltender Zach Fucale stopped 32 of 34 shots, as he played a 12th straight game for the Komets. Filip Gustavsson stopped 23 of 27 shots for the Colin Chaulk-coached Beast (30-26-6).

There is some chance that Fucale could get called up through the Komets’ affiliation with the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, whose goalie, Marc-Andre Fleury, has a lower-body injury, but the Komets haven’t heard yet if Fucale might be needed with Chicago of the American Hockey League yet.
