Southbury Garmin acquires state flight planning company
A Southbury-based electronic flight planning company has been acquired by Garmin, it was announced Wednesday.
Flight Plan, through its website FltPlan.com and mobile app FltPlan Go, provides flight planning, scheduling and trip support services. The company creates more than 6.3 million flight plans each year. Financial terms of the acquisition were not released.
Ken Wilson, founder of FltPlan, said the company will remain in Southbury and “continue to support the complete portfolio of FltPlan.com and FltPlan Go and will work to integrate those services into the Garmin aviation ecosystem,” according to a release announcing the acquisition.
“Thousands of pilots and operators depend on FltPlan.com every day for their flight operation needs,” Wilson said in a release. “We’re looking forward to leveraging decades of experience and industry leadership from Garmin to continue expanding and growing our service offerings and geographical reach for customers.”
FltPlan.com has more than 165,000 registered users. Premium services offered by the company include safety management services, pre-departure clearances, advanced passenger information system, flight tracking and runway analysis.
“We are excited to have the FltPlan team join the Garmin family,” Phil Straub, Garmin executive vice president and managing director, aviation, said. “We look forward to combining the comprehensive flight planning and flight management services available from FltPlan with our lineup of products and services to provide an unmatched portfolio of end-to-end services to our customers.”
Garmin’s aviation business segment serves equipment manufacturers, aftermarket, military and government customers. Its portfolio includes navigation, communication, flight control, hazard avoidance, and surveillance products and services. Garmin is incorporated in Switzerland and has its principal subsidiaries in the U.S., Taiwan and United Kingdom.
In March, Garmin announced it started using Fltplan.com and the FltPlan app to enhance its aviation services.
