Gunfire amid fight prompts University of Cincinnati lockdown
CINCINNATI (AP) — Authorities say gunfire during a fight near a campus recreation center prompted a lockdown at the University of Cincinnati.
The school’s public safety director, James Whalen, says it appears no one was hurt when multiple shots were fired on campus late Thursday night. University officials say the people involved fled, and it’s unclear who was responsible for the gunfire.
Freshman Drew Danneman tells WCPO-TV he was near the fight and took off running after he saw someone pull out a gun. He says he and several other people locked themselves in a closet to hide.
The university alerted people to a possible shooter and urged them to remain indoors before giving the all-clear about an hour later.
The shooting remains under investigation.
