TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Kevin Cox passed for 143 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as Indiana State beat Southern Illinois 52-3 in the Gateway Conference.

Southern Illinois (2-3, 0-1) scored on its first possession on a 29-yard field goal by Ryan Given, but the Sycamores (4-1, 2-0 in the Gateway) ran off 52 consecutive points after that.

Tom Allison scored Indiana State’s first points on a 32-yard field goal before Cox connected with Courtland Tubbs for a 21-yard TD pass as the Sycamores led 10-3 at the end of the first quarter.

After Jason Potter scored on a 2-yard run, Cox hit Tubbs again for 55 yards. Chris Crowder closed the first half’s scoring by returning an interception 42 yards for a touchdown.

In the second half, David Wright, Ben Wolfe and Matt Gajewski all scored rushing touchdowns. Wright rushed for 91 yards, and Tubbs caught three passes for 91 yards in the game.

Southern Illinois quarterback Danny Smith completed 13-of-31 passes for 129 yards and was intercepted three times.

Indiana State gained 417 yards, including 294 on the ground, while holding the Salukis to 219.
