330 LeBron James Ambassador Lourdes Montes receives 2018 Summit for Kids Russ Pry Youth Award

AKRON, Ohio - Lourdes Montes, a senior at Firestone Community Learning Center,  has received the 2018 Summit for Kids Russ Pry Youth Award. Summit County Juvenile Court Judge Linda Teodosio presented the award at the 2018 Summit for Kids Breakfast on Friday.

Montes was selected for her leadership and volunteerism. As a 330 LeBron James Ambassador, she has put in 240 volunteer service hours with the LeBron James Family Foundation. Ambassadors serve as James’ “arms and legs” at foundation events and activities, acting as leaders and mentors for the other students.

In addition, Montes has taken the lead on creating and developing an academic area within the newly opened LeBron James I Promise School. She also volunteers as a cultural ambassador at Proyecto RAICES, an Hispanic community organization that works to preserve the cultural heritage of Akron’s Hispanic population. At Proyecto RAICES, which stands for integrating culture, education and service, Montes applies her bi-lingual skills to helping children in the program with reading.

“Lourdes Montes is a young woman who at such a young age has accomplished so much for youth within the Akron community while also helping to enrich and preserve her cultural background,” said Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro in a news release. “Lourdes is a fantastic role model and is making an amazing difference in the lives of many young people. Thank you for your dedication, Lourdes - you are truly making the world a better place.”

The Summit for Kids Russ Pry Youth Award was established to recognize kids under 21 who create or work with a program that enriches young people lives and who make a difference in their community.

Now in its ninth year, the Summit for Kids is a two-day program focusing on kids’ health, education and quality of life. The Summit for Kids Expo is from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, August 18 John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron.
