Maine city’s downtown to be taken over by gardeners
BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Bangor residents are taking to the streets with the intention of taking over their city — with flowers.
The city’s “Big Dig” event is scheduled to take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families, residents, businesses and community groups will be adopting and planting garden spaces throughout the city’s downtown.
The city says more than 100 sites have been adopted this year. The Downtown Bangor Partnership Beautification Committee is planning on having more than 150 volunteers planting flowers, delivering soil and providing mulch and water.
Participants in the program choose their space, plant in it and take care of it for the season.
