2 hurt in fire at senior community in suburban Denver

November 17, 2018

DENVER (AP) — Two people, including a firefighter, were hospitalized after an explosion and large fire at a senior community in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

Lt. Laure Bridges with Aurora Fire Rescue tells The Denver Post that Friday night’s fire at Heather Gardens involved a gas line in an area of the community that features single-family homes for those 55 and older.

One person was hospitalized with unknown injuries, and the firefighter is in stable condition.

Parts of Heather Gardens were evacuated, and the community’s clubhouse was turned into a shelter.

Bridges says it’s unclear if the explosion caused the blaze, which ignited near a golf course and a grouping of townhomes and condo buildings.
