Bus Crash Kills 11 in Turkey
BOLU, Turkey (AP) _ A bus veered off a highway and plunged more than 800 feet down a mountain Saturday, killing 11 people and injuring 28, police said.
The accident occurred after the bus rammed into the rear of a car and skidded off the highway near the city of Bolu, said Police Chief Ugur Gur.
All 11 killed were believed to be Georgians, the semiofficial Anatolia news agency said. The injured included all six passengers in the car, 18 Georgians and four Greeks who were aboard the bus, officials said.
The bus had crossed into Turkey from Georgia late Friday and was on its way to Istanbul, some 156 miles west of Bolu, when it plunged down the mountain and slammed into a ravine.
Each year thousands of people from the former Soviet bloc travel to Turkey to stock up on textiles and other products to sell back home.
