India-based IT firm opening office in Puerto Rico

January 24, 2014

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico’s governor says an India-based business consulting and information technology company expects to invest $9 million in the U.S. territory.

Alejandro Garcia Padilla said Friday that Infosys will open an office in the northwest coastal town of Aguadilla in a move expected to generate 300 jobs.

He said the company will provide services to the U.S. defense and aerospace sectors.

Garcia has made job creation a priority as the island of 3.67 million people battles a 14.7 percent unemployment rate, the highest compared with any U.S. state.
