Vikings run past Fairfield Christian 19-13

MILLERSPORT, Ohio - Josh Ferguson ran for 171 yards on 14 attempts to lead Symmes Valley (2-0) to a 19-13 victory over Fairfield Christian (0-2) Saturday in high school football.

Derek Crum ran for 68 yards and Keifer Wilson 49 as the Vikings rushed for 309 yards on 44 carries.

Symmes Valley built a 13-0 halftime lead on a 1-yard run by Wilson and a 4-yard fumble return by Ryan Lewis. The teams exchanged third-quarter touchdowns, with Wilson adding another 1-yard plunge, before the Knights scored late to set the score.

The Vikings return to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Chesapeake.

GALLIA ACADEMY 46, RIVER VALLEY 0: The Blue Devils began the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010 by defeating the Raiders (0-2) in the Ohio Valley Bank Community Bowl at Memorial Field in Gallipolis, Ohio.

James Armstrong returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown to give Gallia Academy all the points it needed.

The Blue Devils outgained River Valley 337-137 as Lane Pullins ran for 112 yards on 12 attempts.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE 34, MEIGS 13: Justin Heatherington ran for a touchdown, caught a TD pass and returned an interception for a score as the Red Devils defeated the Marauders in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

Freshman quarterback Coulter Cleland passed for 175 yards and two touchdowns for Meigs (0-2) in a game that was called during the third quarter because of lightning. Brady Kolb ran 10 times for 93 yards for St. Clairsville (2-0).

Meigs entertains Logan (Ohio) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
