Bear reportedly injures hiker at state park in Colorado

September 20, 2018

DENVER (AP) — Colorado wildlife officials say a woman hiking with her dog reported being attacked by a black bear at a state park northwest of Denver.

KMGH-TV in Denver reports Colorado Parks and Wildlife is investigating the incident at Golden Gate Canyon State Park on Wednesday afternoon. The woman, whose name has not been released, was able to walk down a trail to an ambulance.

Details about her injuries have not been released.

Jason Clay, a spokesman for the wildlife department, tells The Denver Post that bears are more active as fall begins because they are trying to eat up to 20,000 calories a day in preparation for winter hibernation.

Golden Gate Canyon State Park is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northwest of downtown Denver.
