Man Held After Smashing UN Window

August 24, 1999

UNITED NATIONS (AP) _ Police arrested a man who smashed a floor-to-ceiling window in the U.N. visitors’ lobby after complaining that the United Nations wasn’t doing enough to combat human rights abuses, witnesses said.

Karl Lamey, 45, of New York City was arrested Monday night and charged with criminal mischief, police said Tuesday.

Witnesses said Lamey used a standing metal pole holding a rope barrier to smash the glass-plate wall between two revolving doors at U.N. headquarters in New York.
