Local Police Departments Hosting National Night Out
Police departments throughout the area will reach out to the public during National Night Out on Tuesday.
The newest Night Out event is in Townsend, which started its tradition last year.
Townsend Police Chief Rick Bailey said the response to last year’s event was so positive, the department needed to choose a larger venue and move from the library to the North Middlesex Regional High School.
Bailey said he has been receiving emails daily from community members who want to be part of National Night Out.
“There had been some disconnection between the police and the community. We just wanted to get people together to have fun meet each other, just have a safe night out,” Bailey said about his decision to start a National Night Out in Townsend, “The relationship with police and the community is very important. We need to get along, and the community (needs to be) comfortable with calling us if they need us.”
Events throughout Greater Lowell will feature music, games and activities for all ages, arts and crafts, educational programs, public-safety vehicles, K-9 units and local vendors.
