Irish Broadcasting Guide Rejects Anti-AIDS Ad
DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) _ A magazine that lists programs on Ireland’s state-funded RTE radio and television has rejected an advertisement about AIDS fund-raising events.
A committee that approves material for publication in RTE Guide said Friday the ad from the Gay Health Action Group might be offensive to the magazine’s ″high family readership.″
″We were very surprised ... the ad was not about our organization but was just to advertise a couple of events to raise money to fight AIDS,″ said Gay Health Action spokesman Ciaran McKinney. The group had placed the ads in other Irish magazines, he said.
The British government announced Friday that it will spend the equivalent of $28 million over the next 12 months on a major publicity campaign, including explicit TV commercials, against AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
