Duo attacks North Olmsted man, Shaker Heights woman in downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio— Two men attacked a North Olmsted man and woman who were walking in downtown Cleveland’s Warehouse District, police said.

Michael King, 22, is charged in the attack. Police are still trying to identify the other attacker.

The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. Saturday outside a parking lot on West 9th Street near Johnston Court. King and the other man didn’t say anything to the couple and didn’t try to steal anything, police reports say.

The two grabbed the 52-year-old woman and 56-year-old man and threw them to the ground, according to police.

The men punched and kicked the 56-year-old man in the abdomen and face, causing cuts on his face, police reports say.

The men punched the woman in the back of the head, threw her to the ground and stomped on her head, according to police.

She suffered broken facial bones and was treated and released from the hospital. The two men ran away and police chased after them.

They arrested King about a block away. The other man managed to escape.

King is charged felonious assault. He is in the Cuyahoga County Jail on $5,000 bond after his first court appearance on Monday.

Police are investigating the possibility that the attack is connected to a similar attack that happened on Sept. 8 on Johnston Court near West 9th Street, police said.

In that case, four men attacked a 53-year-old man who got separated from his group. The man said he was celebrating his birthday and had just left Rumors nightclub on West 9th Street, police reports say.

The man said the four men surrounded him, shoved him to the ground and repeatedly punched, kicked and stomped on him, according to police reports.

The man’s friend and friend’s wife saw the attack and scared the group away, police reports say. The man initially didn’t report the crime, but did so after his sister, a doctor, told him he needed to be treated for the severity of his injuries.

The man suffered large bruises on his legs, elbows and hips, police reports say. He was treated at the Cleveland Clinic on Sunday and reported the incident to police.
