K’s trade Kea, who’s flipped to Toledo
Justin Kea could be on the Memorial Coliseum ice tonight -- for the Toledo Walleye, which got him from the Orlando Solar Bears after a dizzying series events.
The Komets traded Kea to Orlando today, after he had four goals and eight points in 23 games, and the Solar Bears promptly flipped him to the Walleye for unknown returns.
Toledo plays the Komets at the Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
What’s unclear to me at this point is if Kea totally fulfills the trade for Brady Shaw or if the Komets still owe Orlando some future considerations.
The Komets also previously owed Orlando future considerations for Ryan Siiro.
Shaw scored a goal for the Komets on Friday in his first game for Fort Wayne, hours after some of the trade had fallen apart because Aidan Muir had failed his physical and was returned to Fort Wayne. Muir was released by the Komets today.
Personally, the whole thing smells fishy to me. According to the Komets, the reason Muir failed the physical was because of an old hand injury, yet he had somehow been able to play at Western Michigan (for former NHL coach Andy Murray) with that injury and pass the Komets’ physical, so it seems to me that maybe the Solar Bears were politicking to get more out of the Komets.
