Pair indicted over use of ‘skimmers’
A Romanian woman and a British man each were indicted on federal charges Wednesday in separate cases for allegedly installing credit card “skimmers” on ATMs at financial institutions.
Tirlea Dumitru, 46, of Nottingham, England, is charged in U.S. District Court with attempting to defraud Lake City Bank in Warsaw using the device, which fits on the ATM and is used to steal credit card information.
Valentina Marinkovic, 18, installed the devices at Teachers Credit Union locations in Plymouth and Elkhart, according to charging documents.
The credit union paid more than $32,000 to reimburse hundreds of customers whose money was stolen, a six-count indictment said.
Documents do not indicate Dumitru and Marinkovic were working together.
