Stressed-Out Thai Cop Turns All Lights Green, Dances Jig
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) _ A policeman, reportedly stressed out from directing traffic at ″Hell Intersection,″ turned all the stoplights green at the crossing and danced a jig in the ensuing chaos.
Police said Lance Cpl. Suradej Chumnet suffered the breakdown last week while working at the intersection, one of the city’s busiest, according to reports published Thursday.
Suradej, 25, told the newspaper The Nation he felt ″forced″ to cause the traffic jam. ″I had a severe headache,″ he said.
Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Chamlong Iamchaengphan visited the recuperating officer at his home Wednesday. A contrite Suradej, who is seeking psychiatric care, reportedly broke down in tears.
Most officers wear filter masks, and oxygen tanks are installed in police boxes at some congested intersections in Bangkok, a city of more than 6 million people.
