TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Vincent Lecavalier, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s amateur draft, scored the game-winning goal late in the second period Tuesday night and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 in an exhibition game.

Lecavalier, an 18-year-old center, scored his first goal of the preseason at 18:30 of the second period to give the Lightning (3-1) a 4-3 lead. David Wilkie gave Tampa Bay the 5-3 lead 2:18 into the final period.

Carolina (3-2) had come back from a 3-1 deficit on second-period goals by Robert Kron and Keith Primeau.

Tampa Bay goaltender Daren Puppa stopped 31 shots.

The Lightning lead 2-1 after one period on goals by Darcy Tucker and Andrei Nazarov. Wendel Clark’s second period power-play goal gave Tampa Bay the 3-1 lead.

Carolina opened the scoring on the game’s first shot by Craig MacDonald.
