Mother identifies man killed by Hastings police
HASTINGS, Minn. (AP) — The mother of a man fatally shot by police in Hastings says her son had a big heart, but struggled with mental illness and addiction for much of his life.
Tanya Johnson says police shot her 23-year-old son, Keagan Johnson-Lloyd, late Monday. Officers were looking for him because he was a suspect in a stabbing at a group home where he lived.
Johnson tells KSTP-TV she asked police to call her when they found her son so she could help them understand his condition and how he might react. Johnson says she only got a call that he had been shot.
The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says two officers encountered the suspect walking in Hastings and one officer fatally shot him. Officials haven’t said what prompted the officer to shoot him.
