Boat catches fire in Lake Havasu State Park
Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies were patrolling the area of Lake Havasu State Park on July 21 when they observed smoke rising from the park’s launch ramp. Division of Boating Safety deputies arrived at the launch ramp, where a 25-foot single engine boat had caught fire. Deputies used their on-board fire extinguishers to extinguish enough of the blaze to get the boat onto the beach and away from nearby docks.
According to the report, Lake Havasu City firefighters arrived soon afterward to extinguish the fire completely. According to statements taken by the boat’s operator, he and his passengers were leaving the launch ramp when the boat’s engine “ran rough.” The operator turned the boat around and started back toward the launch ramp, where all of the occupants were able to evacuate safely. According to deputies, the fire is believed to have been mechanical in origin.
