Bridgeport Islamic center hosts Ramadan Iftar for all faiths
BRIDGEPORT — Community members of various faiths gathered to break the Ramadan daily fast at the Bridgeport Islamic Community Center on Tuesday night.
Iftar is the evening meal used to end the Ramadan fast each day at sunset during the 30-day holy month celebrated by those of the Muslim faith. This year, Ramadan started on the night of Sunday, May 5, and will continue through Tuesday, June 4.
During Ramadan, practicing Muslims fast from dawn to sunset — roughly 16 hours.
Before breaking the fast on Tuesday, two local politicians addressed the roughly 100 people packed into the BICC community room.
