Chief: Numerous Tips Received But Alleged Abuser Remains At Large
Authorities in the Upvalley spent today following up on tips to try and find a man accused of violently assaulting his girlfriend and abusing her pets, Forest City Police Chief Jim Johnson said.
Christopher Skorets, 19, 122 Archbald St. , Carbondale, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats and harassment stemming from several incidents in Vandling earlier this month.
Megan Dalrymple told police Skorets punched her in the face and threatened her, her children and her pets on Sept. 10, then kicked her and went after her with a knife and screwdriver on Sept. 15, according to court documents. During a third incident on Sept. 20, Dalrymple told officers Skorets beat her with a belt, stabbed her with a screwdriver and bit her, police said.
Authorities filed stalking, animal cruelty and dog abandonment charges against Skorets on Wednesday stemming from another incident this month. Skorets is accused of letting Dalrymple’s dog loose while taking the animal for a walk, then throwing seven cats from the second floor window of a Main Street home. Skorets first told Dalrymple he crushed the dog’s skull but later told her he just let it go, according to court documents.
Police interviewed Skorets before filing warrants and he gave them a written statement that he threw the cats from the window. Police have accounted for five of the felines. Skorets was not immediately taken into custody because they needed further evidence beyond his statement to bring charges.
The dog referenced in the complaints, who is identified on the department’s Facebook page as Tara, was missing for several days but was found alive by an unidentified person on Wednesday. Tara went to a vet, where the dog was found to have been chronically mistreated and malnourished.
Johnson said Tara is in such bad shape that he is “99 percent sure” that Tara will need to be put down.
Police followed up on several leads Wednesday in Carbondale to find Skorets but were unsuccessful. Skorets is described as being 5 feet 9 inches tall, 130 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair. Johnson urged people who see Skorets not to approach him and call 911.
“He has a violent temper,” Johnson said.
