Sarasota Pitcher Throws No-Hitter
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) _ Casey Fossum showed the Boston Red Sox why they made him a first-round draft choice last year.
The 22-year-old left-hander for the Sarasota Red Sox pitched a no-hitter Monday against the Clearwater Phillies in a Class A game. He struck out 16 and walked two.
It was the Florida State League’s first complete-game no-hitter of the season.
``Everything just came together,″ Fossum said. ``I knew the whole time what was going on and everyone left me alone on the bench like they’re supposed to. Only one question came up. That was how many strikeouts did I have, and at the time I didn’t really know.″
The former Texas A&M star improved his record to 8-9 and lowered his ERA to 3.57. He has 114 strikeouts in 118 innings.
