SYDNEY, Australia (AP) _ The 2000 Sydney Olympics cost taxpayers in New South Wales $62 million less than the state government expected, an Auditor-General’s report said Thursday.
The report said that the Olympic Coordination Authority had assessed the state government a total of $665 million, about 10 percent less than originally planned.
The overall cost of the Sydney Games was about $1.5 billion. The bulk of the remainder of the operating costs were raised through ticket sales and corporate sponsorships.
