South Eugene tops Roseburg, 3-0
EUGENE — The Roseburg High girls soccer team didn’t get the result it wanted, but coach Kristin Parks couldn’t have been more pleased with the effort.
The Indians dropped a 3-0 decision to South Eugene in a Southwest Conference game on Tuesday night, Roseburg’s sixth straight loss.
The Axe (4-3-3, 4-0-2 SWC) lead the conference standings, followed by Sheldon (7-2-1, 4-1-1). Roseburg (3-6-1, 0-6) is still seeking its first SWC win.
South Eugene scored in the 18th, 23rd and 34th minutes, but Roseburg didn’t allow a goal in the second half.
“A fantastic first 15 minutes by the girls,” said Parks. “We possessed (the ball) 80 percent easily, put some passes together. I felt like we competed the whole game.”
South Eugene outshot the Tribe, 17-8. Parks said goalkeeper Emily Wheeler “played her heart out” and defenders Katie Knudson and Kaitlyn Riley had strong games.
The Indians thought they scored in the sixth minute. Callie Price attempted a shot that hit inside the crossbar and apparently went in, but the referee ruled it wasn’t a goal.
Roseburg will host Sheldon on Oct. 9, making its first appearance on the new turf at Finlay Field.
