Workers accused of stealing from Alabama school system

December 19, 2018

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Two Alabama school system employees are accused of using the system’s credit cards to each buy about $2,300 of gas for their personal vehicles.

The Tuscaloosa News reports 48-year-old Gaston Wilson III and 53-year-old Thomas Gary Perkins were arrested Sunday on ethics violations and theft charges. Tuscaloosa County School System Terri Brewer says they no longer work for the school system.

Wilson drove a bus route and is accused of fraudulently using county cards since 2015. Perkin’s was the system’s route director and is accused of fraudulently using the cards since 2016. County Sheriff’s Lt. Jack Kennedy says the men acted alone and it’s a coincidence that they stole exactly the same amount.

Both men are set to appear in court in February. It’s unclear if they have lawyers.
