Rockies’ Aybar Excused From Camp
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) _ Right-hander Manny Aybar left the Colorado Rockies’ camp on Saturday to attend to urgent family matters at his home in the Dominican Republic.
The Rockies announced only that Aybar was leaving for personal reasons and that he would be away for ``several days.″
Aybar, obtained from St. Louis in the trade involving Darryl Kile on Nov. 16, is a long shot candidate for the Rockies’ starting rotation. More than likely, he will wind up in the bullpen.
``He’ll be back at some point next week,″ manager Buddy Bell said. ``He pitched winter ball, and he can always find somebody there to throw with, so I don’t think it’s going to set him back at all.″
