2-Year-Old Stabbed in ‘Horseplay’
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (AP) _ A 4-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his 2-year-old sister to death with a fishing knife while the children were exploring a tackle box.
Nicole Cathers had been playing with her two older brothers in the yard behind their mobile home about 3 p.m. Friday.
They entered a tool shed and found the tackle box. The 4-year-old allegedly picked up the knife and struck the girl in the chest with it, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Detective Dave Collins.
He said investigators don’t know why the boy stabbed his sister, but said the incident was being treated as an accident.
``Children that age don’t form intent,″ Collins said. ``Obviously, there was some kind of horseplay.″
The sheriff’s department and the coroner’s office were investigating the death, he said.
The child was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. in Menifee Valley Medical Center.
No other information was available Saturday.
