State Moves to Revoke License of Psychologist in Mansion Murders Case With AM-Mansion Murders
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) _ Authorities moved Friday to revoke the license of a psychologist they say allowed a patient to secretly record therapy sessions implicating two brothers in the murder of their millionaire parents.
The state Board of Psychology also accused Jerome Oziel of furnishing mood- altering drugs without prescriptions and of threatening and assaulting two women patients while they were his lovers.
Oziel didn’t return phone calls for comment, but his lawyer, Bradley Brunon, denied the charges.
″All of the allegations are wholly concocted and most of them have already been thoroughly refuted,″ he said.
The allegations come the week before Oziel is to appear in Los Angeles as the key prosecution witness in the murder trial of brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez.
Lyle, 25, and Erik, 22, are accused of shooting their parents to death in their Beverly Hills mansion in order to inherit the family fortune. They initially denied the crime but now contend they acted after years of psychological and sexual abuse.
Plans to put Oziel on the witness stand haven’t changed, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The accusations against Oziel rely on complaints by two women patients identified by initials J.S. and A.K.
The initials J.S. refer to Judalon Smyth who called Beverly Hills police and told them the Menendez brothers confessed to their psychotherapist that they killed their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez. Smyth went public early on with her role in the case.
According to the complaint, Oziel told Smyth he believed the brothers were going to confess and encouraged her to listen in and tape-record his therapy sessions with them.
The complaint also says that after Oziel and Smyth became lovers he improperly supplied her with drugs, beat her, tried to choke her, sexually assaulted her and threatened to commit her to a mental institution.
The other initials refer to Alex Koury, who has said publicly that Oziel mistreated her and tried to control her with hypnosis when they were lovers.
