NEW YORK (AP) _ Craig Berube deflected Gord Murphy’s point shot past John Vanbiesbrouck with 1:22 left in regulation to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 2-1 exhibition victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.

Ron Hextall made 24 saves for Philadelphia (3-3-1), which beat New York (3-2-3) for the second straight game.

Pat Murray, who scored the game-winner in Philadelphia’s 4-1 win against New York last Tuesday, jammed a loose puck past Vanbiesbrouck for a Flyer power-play goal at 12:38 of the first period.

Murray, a rookie forward from Michigan State, leads Philadelphia with four goals in the exhibition season.

Kris King tied the game at 15:13 of the second period, one-handing a rebound behind the fallen Hextall, who had stopped Brian MacReynolds’ backhander moments earlier.

Vanbiesbrouck made 29 saves in the game which featured six fights.
