UAB license plate gets redesign

December 18, 2018

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The University of Alabama at Birmingham license plates have been redesigned.

The Alabama Department of Revenue tells Al.com the newly designed specialty plate will be available for issuance in 2019. A shipment of plates has been ordered for each licensing office base on the number of current registrations. More than 3,000 UAB license plates are currently on Alabama vehicles.

The current UAB tag features a green bar at the top and the letters “UAB” on the left. The new license plate replaces “UAB” with a fire-breathing dragon, the Birmingham university’s mascot.

While UAB’s plate is getting a redesign, another school is getting a new tag.

License plates for Auburn University at Montgomery will be available at some licensing offices in January. The AUM plates feature the school’s colors and its mascot, the Warhawk.
