WVC ROUNDUP: Pittston Area Sweeps Meyers
At Pittston Area, Emily O’Brien had eight kills, seven service points and three aces as the Patriots swept Meyers, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-18) in Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball Thursday.
Emma Coles (seven service points, two aces) and Michalie Mazurkivich (10 service points, four blocks) were also key contributors in the win.
Da’Nayia Ballard recorded seven kills for Meyers.

At MMI, Brandi Sorokin’s 11 kills led the way in a Warriors sweep. She had four kills, too, while Selena Forlenza and Jenna Chackan both finished with five kills and three aces.
The Preppers fell despite a 10-kill, eight-service point night from Summer Evancho and seven kills and digs from Julie Amentler.

At Tunkhannock, Molly Goodwin’s six kills and five aces helped lift the Tigers to a sweep. Megan Straley tallied seven digs and five kills, Jena Simmons had six digs and four kills, and Annalise Verbeek piled up 16 assists.

At Delaware Valley, Alexis Hunsinger had four aces and three blocks, and Rachael Shaftoe added a pair of aces and seven digs, but the Bulldogs were swept.

Skylynn Gonzalez helped lead GAR with six kills and five digs. Heather Campbell chipped in with seven digs, and Maria Fonseca had four digs and two assists.

At Crestwood, Chyanne Cook scored two goals and lifted the Comets to a 5-1 non-league girls soccer win over Wyoming Area.
Nicole Joseph, Rachel Zingaretti and Melissa Herrera also scored for Crestwood. Aleah Kranson scored a goal for Wyoming Area in the first half, but the Comets pulled away with three goals in the second half.

At Wyoming Seminary’s senior night, seniors Tyler Reinert, Trey Leo and Harrison Kayton found the net in the Blue Knights’ 7-1 victory over Hanover Area in Wyoming Valley Conference boys soccer Thursday.
Sophomore Luke Johns led Sem (11-1-1 Division 2) with three goals, and junior Reggie Grayek also scored. The big win puts the Blue Knights in position to clinch their first division title since 2015 when they finish their league season Tuesday at Meyers (9-1-1 Division 2).
Hunter Ravert scored the lone goal for Hanover Area (2-11 Division 2).
