SAN LUIS, Colo. (AP) — The Latest on the shooting of an sheriff’s deputy in southern Colorado (all times local):

12:30 p.m.

A man wanted in connection to the shooting of a sheriff’s deputy in southern Colorado has been arrested.

The Colorado State Patrol and the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office said that Jackie Wampler Jr. was taken into Wednesday after a search. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer yet.

The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy was shot shortly after 4 a.m. at a rural residential area near Fort Garland while responding to a burglary call. It said the officer was taken to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

Police in southern Colorado say a deputy has been shot multiple times while responding to a burglary call.

The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office says the incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday at a rural residential area near Fort Garland but no other details were released.

The Sheriff’s Office says the officer was taken to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

The name of the deputy was not released.

The Colorado State Patrol said later Wednesday morning that police were searching the Costilla County area for a man identified as Jackie Wampler Jr. It said Wampler should be considered armed and dangerous.
