Mustangs fall 51-42 to Lake Mead
BOULDER CITY — Trailing by one at the half Needles’ Mustangs varsity basketball fell steadily behind in the fourth quarter, losing 51-42 to Lake Mead in NIAA 2A South League competition on Dec. 11.
It was their second league loss of the season. Their only victory in the NIAA so far has been against Laughlin.
“We played well,” said Coach Paul Duchaineau. “We took the lead by three midway through the third quarter. A few bad breaks and missed shots and the score at the end of the third was (Lake Mead) 35 (Needles) 32.”
Playing in their home gym Lake Mead outscored Needles 16-10 in the fourth to take the win.
The Eagle’s Ryan Kennedy (No. 3) led all scoring with 17. The Mustangs’ Nathan Rodriguez scored 15. Dawsen Yeager posted 12 for Needles; Calson Madruga 11 for Lake Mead.
The Mustangs travel to Parker for a non-conference game on Monday, then return to host Mountain View on Tuesday, Dec. 18. The junior varsity tip off at 3 p.m., the varsity at 6 p.m.
