A van-tactic donation: Business marks anniversary by giving vehicle to Boys & Girls Clubs
BULLHEAD CITY — Automobile Consulting Services, LLC celebrated 25 years of operation by donating a van to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Colorado River.
On Jan. 4, a group of children from the Bullhead City club were the first to get acquainted with the new van.
“It was honestly by surprise as they (Automobile Consulting) called and said hey come over, we want to give you this,” said Bree Gonzalez, director of operations at the club. “It’s really going to help with picking kids up from charter schools and for field trips.”
The three local clubs were looking at getting a second vehicle for a while as they only had one to go around. The Boys & Girls Clubs provide after-school programs and a summer day camp to more than 1,400 students annually.
The lack of vehicles resulted in limited field trips and the inability to provide after-school pickups to local charter schools. The new van will help create new adventures for the club and save money from having to rent buses or shuttle vans to transport the children, Gonzalez said.
“A lot happens right at the club, but there are times when transportation is needed,” Bullhead City Manager Toby Cotter said. “This is just an excellent donation not just to the club, but for the community because of the service the Boys & Girls Club provides.”
The donated van is a low-mileage 2017 one-ton Chevrolet Express passenger van that seats 15. The vehicle was ready to roll for the club as it was completely inspected, and had a full tank of gas. It also came with a full powertrain warranty.
The idea originated from Sharon Gluschenko, owner of Automobile Consulting Services, who is celebrating 25 years of business in Mohave County.
“Instead of us having a party for everybody we decided to donate to the Boys & Girls Club,” Gluschenko said. “We wanted to do it so they can continue to grow.”
She said it was a way to say thanks to all those who shop locally.
“We give back because we are a part of the community,” Gluschenko said. “When you buy local, this is the result.”
