SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Police have arrested two suspects in a shooting in a Spanish Springs neighborhood north of Sparks.

Officers took 21-year-old Irving Hernandez and a female juvenile who was in his car into custody at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lazy 5 Regional Park near Sparks Boulevard and the Pyramid Highway.

Washoe County Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Harmon says an off-duty sergeant was walking in a neighborhood about a mile north of Spanish Springs High School Tuesday night when he saw a car drive by and a gunshot fired out the window.

The suspects abandoned the car several blocks away and fled on foot.

Formal charges are pending. It’s not clear if Hernandez has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
