Victim of parking garage rape awarded $6.6M
BOSTON (AP) — A Haverhill woman who sued the owners and managers of a Boston hotel parking garage where she was raped has won a $6.6 million jury verdict.
The Boston Globe reports that the jury found the managers were negligent and awarded the woman $4 million on Tuesday. With interest it increased to $6.6 million.
The 41-year-old woman was leaving an elevator at the Radisson Hotel parking garage in May 2009 when she was attacked.
Her suit alleged that JPA was negligent in protecting her especially because another woman had been raped in the same garage by the same man 12 days earlier.
Lawyers for JPA said they did all they could to protect customers after the first rape, including boosting security. They have not decided whether to appeal.
