Amazon still considering District, suburbs for new HQ
WASHINGTON (AP) — Online giant Amazon says it is still considering the District of Columbia and its suburbs in its search for a second headquarters.
Amazon announced Thursday it has narrowed its search to 20 finalists out of more than 200 submissions.
The District, Northern Virginia, and Montgomery County, Maryland, are three of the finalists. Loudoun and Fairfax counties confirmed their joint proposal for a site near Dulles International Airport is one of the northern Virginia sites under consideration.
Amazon says its second headquarters will be similar in size to its existing Seattle headquarters. The company plans to invest $5 billion in the new headquarters and employ as many as 50,000 people.
Locations in Baltimore and Prince George’s County in Maryland and Richmond and Hampton Roads in Virginia are no longer under consideration.
