Race (or not) through the end of summer with these charity walks

September brings cooler temperatures, beautiful scenic views, and a return from vacations. What a perfect time to get involved in a charity run. While there are dozens – if not hundreds – of runs around the state, here are a half-dozen local events in the next few weeks to check out:

Scheels Med City Fall Half, 10K, 5K

Saturday, September 15- 5K: 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, September 16- 10K: 7:30 a.m.; Half: 8:00 a.m.

5K – In front of SCHEELS

10K – Bamber Valley Elementary

Half – Rochester International Airport

Starting at the airport and finishing at Scheels, this course will take runners and walkers through scenic Mayowood and along the river.

We Won’t Stay Silent 5K/10K Run

Saturday, September 15

8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

RCTC, 851 30th Ave. SE, Rochester

September is Recovery Month, so what better time to host a fundraiser, spread awareness and support others than at this 8th annual walk and run?

14th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

Sunday, September 16

8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Mayo High School, 5306, 1420 11th Ave. SE, Rochester

Join the more than 400 people who have already registered as they walk all over Rochester to support those fighting breast cancer, celebrating those who have beat it and remembering those who lost their lives.

$5 5K Habitat for Humanity

Monday, September 17

6 to 7 p.m.

TerraLoco, 1190 16th St. SW, Rochester

This low-priced, registration-free event benefits Habitat for Humanity building “healthy homes for healthy families.” Wear construction gear (hard hats, safety glasses, etc.) and bring a reusable water bottle for extra prize tickets. UCAN sports nutrition will also be present.

2018 New Leash on Life 5K Dog Run and 3K Fun Walk

Saturday, September 22

9 a.m. to noon

Silver Lake Park, 840 7th St. NE Rochester

In the past eight years of New Leash on Life, nearly $250,000 has been raised. This year’s goal will be to raise $35,000 for the Zumbro Valley Health Center and Camp Companion.

Back the Badge 5K and 2 Mile Run/Walk

Saturday, September 29

7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation of Southeast Minnesota

101 4th St. SE, Rochester

Join other walkers and runners to support , build and maintain the Law Enforcement Memorial of southeast Minnesota. There will be squad cars, a K9 demo, bounce houses and more.
