February 8, 2019

The state wrestling meet begins today in Prescott Valley, with four Lake Havasu grapplers taking aim at a title.

Wrestling begins today at 10:30 a.m. at the Findlay Toyota Center, the newly branded Prescott Valley Events Center.

Kyler Green will open up the 113 pound bracket against Casa Grande’s Gabriel Jolly, who finished second at the Section 1 meet.

Earle Parra, who finished second the state last year, will open as one of the top seeds at 132 pounds. He’ll open the bottom of the bracket against Chino Valley’s Cody Jasper, who finished fourth in Section 4.

Jared Thomas, who breezed to a sectional title last year, opens as the top seed at 160, facing Tempe’s Edgar O. Yanez Orduno.

Knights sophomore Daniel Blalock drew a first round match against Payson’s Travis Christianson, a runner up in Section 4.

The last Knights wrestler to claim an individual state title was 170-pounder Luis Rivera in 2012.
